No. 40. A coffee shop menu. The place has been remodeled and this wonderful menu has disappeared. I couldn’t get a better photo, but here are the interesting points:
Top of the menu: “Choice a cake with a coffee or a tea”. You were to choose from the following mysterious dishes:
-Rare Cheez Pure (Layer Cheese Puree?)
-Purple-Potate
-Cheese, Sweetn Bean Paste
No. 39. A sign in Kamakura. Not really sure what they are trying to express here. Frash door. Thanks, Mr. I.K.
鎌倉の看板。”Frash door”はなんでしょうか？
No. 38. Another sign in Kamakura. Not incorrect, but does give one the impression that the water could be drunk, but might not be too tasty. 鎌倉の看板、その２特に変な英語ではないが、普通「飲料水ではない」を表現したい時は “don’t drink”,又はnot safe for drinkingを使う。（Ｉ．Ｋ．さん、ありがとう！）
No. 37. A university student’s binder.
To begin with, let’s be particular about our stationery so we can enjoy campus life. I’m sure studying will be fun. But I feel happiest after school and on holiday. Don’t we all?
大学生のバインダー。「始めに筆記用具をきちんと選びましょう。そうするとキャンパスライフを楽しめる。勉強は楽しいだろうと信じている。しかし一番ハッピーな時は放課後や休みの日だ。」
No. 36. A frothy sign on the side of a family restaurant. ファミリレスの外壁メセージ。

ファミリレスの外壁メセージ。直訳するとこんな感じ？「優しい食事が明るいところで準備された。風、緑。気持ちが解かれた。気持ち：陽気な時。大切な人と過ごしてください、毎日生きる。」面白いメセージでしょう。
No 35. A car called “that’s”. Seems to be missing something as a brand name. ”Ｔｈａｔ’ｓ”という車。Ｔｈａｔ’ｓ＝それ、やあれ。車の名前としてちょっと変ではないか？。
No 34. Not really strange English. I just liked the phrase. Life is beer. 変な英語ではないですが、面白いアイディアです。人生＝ビール。
No 33. A bar in Tokyo. “Earthly Pub.” Better than “Hellish Pub” but not a good as “Heavenly Pub.” “Earthly Pub” =世俗パブ？地獄パブよりいいかもしれませんが、天国パブのほうが楽しそうです。
No 32. A concert flyer. “Let’s enjoy piano-ing”! コンサートチラシ。しかし、”Piano-ing”と言う言葉は存在しない気がします。
No 31. A beauty parlor sign in Higashi Ikebukuro. “A face to be pleased with a visitor wants to look at us.” 東池袋の美容院。
No 30. Izakaya menu. “Supring roll which a shrimp and a rice cake and avocado were in.” Did they remove all the goods before serving, then? “Were in”＝過去形なので、もともとアボカド、もち、海老が入っていた春巻きという意味。現在入っていない？薄味（味ーなし？）？
No 29. Izakaya menu. Recommended by the chef (says the menu): “Guts-tot dish with Champon noodle.” Not sure what “tot” is, but I always avoid dishes containing guts. “Guts”＝内臓。もっときれいな言い方がない？
No 28. Izakaya menu. “Grilled beef line containing a lot of collagen.” Now that sounds healthy. Line = tendon. But what’s collagen doing in there? 私みたいなアメリカ人にとっては牛すじ＝捨てるものです。それにコラーゲンたっぷりと言われれば食欲を失います。
No 27. Izakaya menu. “Legendary cone butter” I suppose they meant buttered corn? 伝説のコーンバター。英語ではトウモロコシ＝CORN.しかしCONE＝円錐（えんすい）体。バター付き円錐体はいかがですか？
No 26. A Suntory whisky glass. “A glassful of drops, each drop is tomorrow’s dream, sip your dreams by drops.” That says it all, I guess. At least if you’re already pickled. サントリーのグラス。「コップ一杯のしずく。しずくは明日の夢。夢を一滴ずつ飲んで」。
No. 25. A tissue box. “Edward the Elephant. Decorative kashmir was born and raised in yuno, and received her art training there at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs.” Clever little elephant. 像とチッシューの関係は？ボックスの文字によるとエドワード像がゆので生まれ、フランスで美術を学びました。賢い像ですね。
No. 24. A chiropractor’s sign. “Takemura bonesetter’s office” Unfortunately, a bonesetter is “someone (not necessarily a licensed physician) who sets broken bones.” Not normally an establishment with a large walk-in trade.この整骨院の英語目はちょっと奇妙です。辞書によると”Bonesetter” = （通例無免許の）接骨医。しかし、英語系の人がこの言葉を聞くと逃げたくなります。昔医者がいない時bonesetterが骨を折った患者の治療をする者でした。
No. 23. A t-shirt. “Vans. Established before you were born, here after you’re gone.” Cheeky sentiment, eh? (Vans is a Japanese clothing and shoe maker. According to their homepage, they have been in business for 40 years. I’ve “been in business” for 49 years and hope to outlast them!) ちょっとずうずうしいフレーズ。「あなたが生まれる前から創立され、あなたが亡くなった後も営業が続きます」。Ｖａｎｓ社のホームページによりますと会社が４０年前に創立されました。私はそれより前に生まれたし、会社より長生きするつもりです！
No. 22. A t-shirt. “Never smash me, never hit me.” Perhaps the wearer has come across a new form of self-defense?
No. 21. A t-shirt. “A awift-running heavenly warrior” I imagine “awift” means “swift”. So drink beer and become a swift-running heavenly warrior. Fine sentiment – think I’ll have a beer. おそらく”awift”はスペルミス（swift). なので意味は「足の速い戦士」。結論：ビールを飲めば足の速い戦士になります。素晴らしい：ビール下さいよ。
No. 20. A t-shirt. “Anyone is anyone sometimes injured.” Is it a safety warning? We’ll all be injured sometime? Scary! 「だれでもいつかけがをする」。ということはセーフティー第1？またはいずれにけがをするから諦めろ？怖い。
No. 19. A t-shirt. “Grateful day – When tour heart – filled with hope – my face beam with joy. Perhaps this is a random stream of words? 直訳しますと「感謝の日、ツアーの心、楽しみいっぱい、顔が喜びで光っている」 。言葉が適当に並ばれているかもしれません。

No. 12. I’m a bit hungry – perhaps some hair for lunch? Naw, had that yesterday. Think I’ll go for the relaxation plate. This is actually a price list for a beauty parlour. 英語しか読めない人にとってはこの看板が奇妙です。美容室かレストランかは区別できません。
No. 11. A cafe or bar sign. Not sure what they serve. Thanks for the pix, Masa. カフェかバーの看板。読んでもどういう店かは分かりません。写真をありがとう、雅。

No. 4. Sign for a pachinko parlour. Sounds like a nice place – I wonder what sort of amenities they give out? パチンコ屋。辞書によると”amenity = 快適な設備。入りたくなった？
No. 3. Sign on a waterworks truck. Tokyo must be short of water this year. They’re actually constructing water on the streets now. 水道局トラック。東京は水不足？水を製作中？
